Sewer Line Repair & Trenchless

Recurring backups, sewage odors, and slow drains throughout the home often point to a main sewer line problem. We diagnose the cause and recommend the best repair path—including trenchless options when they make sense. 🛠️

Tip: Tell us which fixtures are backing up and whether it happens after laundry, showers, or rain.

Signs You May Have a Sewer Line Problem

Sewer line issues usually show up as whole-home symptoms—not just one sink or toilet. If you’re noticing any of these, it’s worth checking the main line.

  • Backups in tubs or showers when using other fixtures
  • Multiple slow drains at the same time
  • Gurgling toilets or drains
  • Sewage odors in bathrooms or near floor drains
  • Frequent clogs that keep returning
  • Wet spots or unusually green patches in the yard

Common Causes of Sewer Line Damage

Main sewer lines fail for a few predictable reasons. The key is identifying the real cause so the repair actually lasts.

Root Intrusion

Roots seek moisture and can enter through small joints or cracks, creating recurring blockages.

Pipe Deterioration

Older materials can corrode, scale up, or weaken over time, restricting flow or collapsing.

Ground Movement

Soil shift and settling can separate joints or create sagging sections that trap waste and debris.

How We Diagnose Sewer Line Issues

We don’t guess. Sewer repair decisions should be based on what’s actually happening inside the line.

  1. Symptom review. We confirm what’s backing up, how often, and what triggers it.
  2. Line clearing if needed. If a blockage is stopping flow, we may clear it first to restore function.
  3. Camera inspection. We inspect the line to identify roots, breaks, bellies, offsets, or collapse.
  4. Clear recommendations. We explain what we found and outline repair options based on condition.

Camera inspections help avoid unnecessary digging and help match the repair to the actual problem.

Trenchless vs Traditional Sewer Repair

Trenchless sewer repair can reduce excavation in many situations—but it’s not always the right fit. The best approach depends on pipe condition, access, and the type of damage.

Trenchless Can Be Great When

  • The pipe is structurally suitable for trenchless methods
  • You want to minimize yard disruption
  • The damage is consistent along a repairable section
  • A camera inspection confirms compatibility

Traditional Repair May Be Better When

  • The line is collapsed or severely offset
  • There are multiple failing segments in different areas
  • Access limitations prevent trenchless methods
  • A section needs to be replaced due to major damage

Our Sewer Repair Process

We focus on accurate diagnosis, clean execution, and repairs that hold up over time.

  1. Confirm the problem. We identify symptoms and restore flow when possible.
  2. Inspect and locate. Camera inspection and locating help pinpoint the issue.
  3. Recommend the best repair. Trenchless or traditional based on the line’s condition.
  4. Complete the repair. We repair or replace the damaged section with long-term reliability in mind.
  5. Verify performance. We confirm function and share prevention tips when applicable.

What Affects Sewer Line Repair Cost

Sewer repair pricing depends on what’s happening underground and what it takes to repair it correctly. Common factors include:

  • Type and severity of damage (roots, collapse, sag, separation)
  • Depth and access to the sewer line
  • Length of pipe affected
  • Whether trenchless repair is possible
  • Whether excavation is needed and how much
  • Condition of older pipe materials

We’ll explain what we found and the options available before moving forward.

Sewer Line Repair FAQs

How do I know if my sewer line is clogged or damaged

If multiple fixtures are slow or backing up, or if backups happen in tubs or showers, the main line may be involved. A camera inspection can confirm the cause.

Is trenchless sewer repair always possible

No. Trenchless options depend on the condition and layout of the line. If the pipe is collapsed or severely offset, traditional repair may be required.

Can tree roots be removed without replacing the line

Roots can often be cleared, but if they return repeatedly, the line may have cracks or joints that need repair to prevent ongoing intrusion.

Do you offer camera inspections

Yes. Inspections help identify the issue and locate the damaged area so the repair is targeted and accurate.

What should I do if sewage is backing up into my home

Stop using water fixtures immediately to reduce overflow risk, then submit a service request so we can help route the fastest response.

Sid saved the day! I had an old galvanized pipe with a pin hole leak that was the main source of water for my house. Jerry tried to fix it. It was near impossible to fix because one mistake would have forced the entire piping system to be replaced. The pin hole leak got fixed! Thank goodness! Sid saved the day! Maria G. West SAC

Galvanized hose bib snapped off due to rusting/corrosion, forcing me to shutdown water to the entire home.
Sid picked up the phone within 2 rings, asked for pictures of the damage and immediately gave me a reasonable quote while still on the phone.

Explained to me very clearly that it may be possible to removed the rusted threads of the old bib from the copper piping and quoted me on that job, less than $200. If removing the broken galvanized pipe threads failed, theyd have to redo the entire assembly. However, hed put that original quote towards redoing the assembly, rather than charging me for a failed fix, and then for a new fix on top of it.

Sid, the owner, came out in person with one of his plumbers within the hour. They were extremely friendly and professional.

They walked me through every step as they were working on the pipe to make sure I understood what was happening, and why.

They were successful in removing the galvanized pipe threads (I think they were more relieved than I was), and set me up with a new solid brass nipple and hose bib. Extra long in fact because I have more galvanized pipe around the area, and they wanted to make sure there were no more similar issues in the future. (I guess part of the rusting issue was due to electrolysis, or something along those lines, due to the mixture of different metals)

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with their handiwork, their professionalism, and how fast they were able to help service me. I will 100% be using them again in the future.

After getting an eye popping estimate from another company for a water heater replacement, I called 5th generation for a second opinion. Within 15 minutes Sidney was at my house with an estimate more than 50% less than what I was quoted for the exact same job. Even on new years eve at 3 pm, he came through with his technician and as promised got me up and running by 7 pm! Truly impressive! I will be using them again in the future.

Pricing was very fair. The guys had it done in a day and stayed until dark to finish the job. Would definitely use them again.

Great job by Ryan. He arrived late in the afternoon and stayed until after 8PM fixing my issue. I had to send him home as he worked so late into evening. We had no hot water until the next day but he came back and got things going. Sid was great also. Good communicator and always picked up the phone. I had to call a few times regarding the scheduling but he took good care of me and made sure I was happy. I would recommend 5th generation. The price wasnt too bad either : )
