Leak Detection & Slab Leaks

Hidden leaks can waste water, damage your home, and quietly raise your bill. If you suspect a leak—behind walls, under floors, or under the slab—we can help locate it and recommend the right repair. 💧

Tip: Include any photos, water bill changes, and where you’re noticing symptoms.

Signs You May Have a Hidden Leak

Some leaks are obvious. Others stay hidden for weeks or months. Here are common warning signs homeowners notice first:

  • Unexpected increase in your water bill
  • Sound of running water when nothing is on
  • Damp spots on floors, walls, or ceilings
  • Warm areas on the floor (possible hot water slab leak)
  • Musty odors or visible mold growth
  • Low water pressure or inconsistent flow
  • Cracks in drywall, flooring, or tile

What Is a Slab Leak

A slab leak is a leak in a water line that runs beneath the concrete foundation of your home. Because it’s hidden under the slab, it may show up as warm flooring, damp carpet, cracks, or unexplained water use.

Common Slab Leak Symptoms

  • Warm spots on floors
  • Persistent dampness or wet flooring
  • New cracks in tile or concrete
  • Musty smell near flooring
  • Higher water bills with no changes

Why Slab Leaks Matter

  • Can cause flooring and foundation damage
  • Can lead to mold and moisture issues
  • Can worsen quickly if left unresolved
  • Can waste significant water over time

Common Causes of Leaks

Leaks can happen for several reasons depending on pipe material, age, and water conditions. Common causes include:

Pipe Wear Over Time

Older pipes can corrode, thin, or develop weak points that eventually fail.

Loose Connections

Fittings and joints can loosen or degrade, especially in high-use areas.

Pressure and Movement

Water pressure fluctuations and minor ground movement can stress plumbing lines.

Our Leak Detection Process

The goal is simple: locate the leak accurately and minimize unnecessary damage. We focus on evidence-based diagnosis and clear next steps.

  1. Review symptoms. We confirm what you’re seeing and where it’s happening.
  2. Check pressure and usage clues. We look for indicators of hidden water loss.
  3. Locate the leak area. We narrow down where the leak is most likely occurring.
  4. Recommend the best repair path. We explain options based on access, location, and urgency.

If you suspect a slab leak, acting early can reduce damage and repair scope.

What Happens After We Locate the Leak

Once we’ve identified the most likely location, we’ll explain repair options based on the situation. Depending on the leak and pipe condition, repairs may include:

  • Targeted repair of a specific section
  • Access through flooring or wall areas when necessary
  • Valve or fitting replacement
  • Planning for longer-term solutions if the plumbing system shows repeated failures

Our priority is to stabilize the problem first, then help you choose the smartest long-term fix.

What Affects Leak Detection Cost

Leak detection pricing depends on what’s happening, where the leak is located, and how quickly it can be confirmed. Common factors include:

  • Whether the leak is visible or hidden behind finishes
  • Whether symptoms point to a slab leak
  • Number of potential leak areas to evaluate
  • Access limitations and time required to narrow the location

We’ll explain what we’re seeing and what the next step should be before moving forward.

Leak Detection FAQs

How do I know if I have a hidden leak

I had a great experience with 5th generation plumbing! They had a plumber out the same day to give me an estimate on adding a clean out and removing some roots that had protruded into our sewer line. Pricing was very fair. The guys had it done in a day and stayed until dark to finish the job. Would definitely use them again.

After getting an eye popping estimate from another company for a water heater replacement, I called 5th generation for a second opinion. Within 15 minutes Sidney was at my house with an estimate more than 50% less than what I was quoted for the exact same job. Even on new years eve at 3 pm, he came through with his technician and as promised got me up and running by 7 pm! Truly impressive! I will be using them again in the future.

Galvanized hose bib snapped off due to rusting/corrosion, forcing me to shutdown water to the entire home.
Sid picked up the phone within 2 rings, asked for pictures of the damage and immediately gave me a reasonable quote while still on the phone.

Explained to me very clearly that it may be possible to removed the rusted threads of the old bib from the copper piping and quoted me on that job, less than $200. If removing the broken galvanized pipe threads failed, theyd have to redo the entire assembly. However, hed put that original quote towards redoing the assembly, rather than charging me for a failed fix, and then for a new fix on top of it.

Sid, the owner, came out in person with one of his plumbers within the hour. They were extremely friendly and professional.

They walked me through every step as they were working on the pipe to make sure I understood what was happening, and why.

They were successful in removing the galvanized pipe threads (I think they were more relieved than I was), and set me up with a new solid brass nipple and hose bib. Extra long in fact because I have more galvanized pipe around the area, and they wanted to make sure there were no more similar issues in the future. (I guess part of the rusting issue was due to electrolysis, or something along those lines, due to the mixture of different metals)

Overall, I am extremely satisfied with their handiwork, their professionalism, and how fast they were able to help service me. I will 100% be using them again in the future.

Sid saved the day! I had an old galvanized pipe with a pin hole leak that was the main source of water for my house. Jerry tried to fix it. It was near impossible to fix because one mistake would have forced the entire piping system to be replaced. The pin hole leak got fixed! Thank goodness! Sid saved the day! Maria G. West SAC

Great job by Ryan. He arrived late in the afternoon and stayed until after 8PM fixing my issue. I had to send him home as he worked so late into evening. We had no hot water until the next day but he came back and got things going. Sid was great also. Good communicator and always picked up the phone. I had to call a few times regarding the scheduling but he took good care of me and made sure I was happy. I would recommend 5th generation. The price wasnt too bad either : )
